California also has a lot of history when it comes to settlers and what they had to bring to our State.

Los Angeles, California

Los Angeles is a great city in California. This state has a lot to offer since it is one of the largest state in the United States. The freeway 5 goes all the way South and North of California which is great if one is off to take a family road trip. There is a lot to see in California from the Coast are up North and also down south by the boarder of Mexico.

Los Angeles, California

In Los Angeles we see that there are a lot people from different cultures. We see a lot of people of color all around us. The community consist of a lot of people from South American and also of over seas countries. It is really nice to live in a very diverse community. I have loved living in the  Los Angeles Area for the main reason that I have learned so much not only my culture but also the different cultures from around the world.

As I have stared working in an Elementary school I have realized that the classrooms have become more and more diverse and thus many children are mixed and have two cultures rather than one these days. I have students that are Korean mixed with some Spanish blood. I have fallen in love with how much things have changed when it comes to the diversity we have today.

Chapter 13 Empty Interior

In chapter 13 the author talks about how the population density is low in this region thus they call it the "Empty Interior." This region that is called the "Empty Interior" consist of parts of New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana Oregon, Nevada, Washington and all of Arizona, Utah, and Idaho. Parts of Canada also are apart of the "Empty Interior." These area climate is really dry and becomes "increasing apparent towards the region's southern zones." Even though, the population is really low there has been movements of a growing populations. Growing cities and towns will eventually become a larger community.

Los Angeles, California

In Los Angeles we do not have "Empty Interior" however, it would be nice if we did the traffic would be more bearable. Los Angeles is congested with people and the populations seems to be growing as the years go on. Here in this link we can see how much the population as been growing through out the years.

Chapter 11 THe Agriculture Core

In Chapter 11 the text books talks about the different areas of the United States where Agriculture can be found. There are a lot of agriculture all through the United States that are over seen due to the big cities that are around them.

Los Angeles, California

In city of Angeles we do not really see much of agriculture as it is manly big cities and not much nature is around us. However, in my own community a major project came and really has helped our community out. The project started back in 1998 making a community garden to grow fruits and vegetables and also get the community involved. Every year this community garden has grown and it is now filled with seasonal fruits and vegetables.

Here is also a link of the LA Times talking about the garden in Boyle Heights.

Here are other community gardens all through Los Angeles.

Chapter 10 THe Southern CoastLands: On the Subtropical Margin

Chapter 10 the text books talks about agriculture right on The Southern Coastlands. Because of the humid climate and  due to the warm water coming from the Gulf of Mexico it makes it easy to grow crops there. There are a lot of farms in that are of the United States due to the fact that it is just really great to grow crops there. The weather makes it perfect for plants to grow. The South has a lot of natural resources that they use and take advantage of the water that is there for them and well as the soil.

here is a video of what farmers grown.

Los Angeles, California

In Los Angeles there really isn't a lot of agriculture that happens since it is mainly a metropolitan city filled with building and major companies. However, a new movement has come to Los Angeles making available fresh fruits and vegetables for people in the community. There are a lot of farmer's markets that can be visited to buy fresh fruits and vegetable that are organic as well. Farmers come to the city to sell their merchandise to the people of Los Angeles and also give them tips of how to start their own organic garden at home.

Chapter 9 The Changing South

In chapter 9 we are introduced to the South. A little history of the South is well known as we all have studies American History. The South was known for Slavery states and then had a lot of trouble accepting change when slavery was no longer allowed. In the South we can find a lot of agriculture as well as some metropolitan cities. It is very diverse today as there are a lot of people from different races living in the South.

Los Angeles, California

In the South of Los Angeles California the population is mainly building up by Hispanics as well as a African Americans. There are a lot of neighborhoods that make up South LA such like Compton, Lynwood, Gardena, Hawthorne, ect. It is near Downtown LA a metropolitan city. There is not much of agriculture there however, you can find a great well known university that represents Southern California. This well known university is The University of Southern California located in Compton and is well known for their Doctors and their non-profit hospitals General County Hospital.

Midterm Summary

Through out the half of this semester I have had the pressure to learn about not only the geography of the Unites States but also of Canada. There were new things that I have learned so far this semester such like the urbanization and how it occurred also the patterns that we all throughout the US and Canada.

Making this blog has been a real eye opener I have learned so much from my Hometown. It has made me realize that I have been a stranger to this city there is so much history every where I go and have not even realizing it until I took the time to research my hometown and it's geography. Also there is so many tourism going on in my hometown that I never took the time to realize. I am looking forward in learning more about the geography of my Los Angeles.

Mountains Chapter 8

Living in Los Angeles we get the amazing view of the Mountains which look extremely beautiful during Winter due to the snow that covers them up. The closes Mountains to Los Angeles as The San Gabriel Mountains. In the past there were a lot of gold digging due to the large amount of gold that was found there. Also railroads were also building there but they are no longer in service. You can find amazing hiking trails surrounding Los Angeles with amazing views. The best hiking trails I have found personality are the foothills and also the hike up to the Hollywood sign. Those two hiking trails are filled with amazing views and also have a great wildlife running into can be scary but exciting at the same time. To the right you can see an amazing picture from the San Gabriel Mountains taken during a hike.

Here is a Link that can help you plan your next hiking trip. This link shows from easy hiking trails to more difficult ones and also the best hikes to do as well. Los Angeles proves a lot of location for tourims and also natural resources as well. In order for Los Angeles to be bypassed it would have to really take a downfall.

Los Angeles Manufactures Chapter 5

There are a lot of manufactures that are located all through out the United States some are located in big cities such like Los Angeles. One big manufacture that is located in Los Angeles employing over 11,000 people is American Apparel located east of Los Angeles. American Apparel has a big factory in Los Angeles and a lot of clothing stores all through Los Angeles, through California and in other states as well. They are big on fashion and also hold a Flee market in their factory building selling some items at a discounted price which is great for the low income families. This company is also well known for the donations they make. They are also well known for the "Legalized LA" and "Legalized Gay" pride they have which is a great support for the immigrate and gay communities.

One other great manufacture company that is located in Los Angeles is The San Antonio Winery they produce a vast variety of wines for Los Angeles for more than 100 years now. They also have a restaurant and tours for the those who want to know about how they produce the wine. This is a great company to have in Los Angeles as we have a lot of restaurants and bars that are require alcohol for their business.  It is a great place to visit for all those wine lovers and also a good place to look at a piece of history of Los Angeles. It has been family owned for four generations and it has been growing into a large company since it first started.

Here is a short video taking you into the winery for a quick look.

Megalopolis Chapter 4

As we all know Los Angeles is now considered as a Megalopolis along with other big cities in the United States. Here in this image we can see other major cities that are also considered Megalopolis due to how large the city has become.

We can clearly see that Los Angeles is a Megalopolis city by just looking at it. We have a large population and the city is just to large that can me seen miles away. We see a lot of lights with huge large building along with highways. Here is an amazing video showing Los Angeles and its beautiful city lights.

A Short Tale about Los Angeles Chapter 3

There was a time where there was never a city known as Los Angeles the first settlers that formed this city were Spanish and Mexican coming from the South. The city of Los Angeles was known as "El Pueblo De Nuestra Señora De Los Angeles Di Porciúncula"back in 1781. It was named to honer the Virgin Mary as Catholics was the main religion to these people. California was apart of Mexico at one point thus the main language was Spanish and small Native American languages that were near the small town of "El Pueblo De Nuestra Señora De Los Angeles Di Porciúncula." Since the town was formed a great amount of different people have lived in the town. The city of Los Angeles is a multi-culture community as it has welcomed people from different cultures. Throughout the years African American, Jewish, Native American, Hispanics and Asians have live in Los Angeles creating history in this town. It has not always been an easy road for people that lived in Los Angeles in the past as they faced discrimination, war, and a life of battle for their rights.
It is amazing how this town formed with a few settlers and now we see it as big city. There is a lot of history in Los Angeles that can be seem by old building that are still standing. The original town of "El Pueblo De Nuestra Señora De Los Angeles Di Porciúncula" that was formed back in 1781 is still standing today and is known as "La Placita Olvera" or "Olvera Street." When visiting "La Placita Olvera" you can see a lot of history of the town how they lived and even read about some of the people that lived there. Here is a link to  help plan your trip to Olvera Street.

Los Angeles during the Summer. (pollution)

Climate: Los Angeles and California in general does not have the beauty to experience the four climate season. California is a Sunny state and it hardly rains. The only seasons we get is SUMMER and a tat bit of FALL. Summers in Los Angeles are mainly hot, dry and humid it can get up to one hundred degrees. During hot summer days it is nice to go to the beach and cool down. During our Fall time it normally does not rain in Los Angeles and when it does it is very enjoyable by most people like myself. Pollution is a big factor in Los Angeles, our air is filled with smog and air pollution which can be bad for people's health. We also get the Santa Ana winds which usually makes it hot here and also winds can get pretty strong during Fall/Winter.

Natural Resources: As we might not notice or realize it Los Angeles has a lot of natural resources and sometimes are used everyday. According to UC Davis in their geographic website it states "Southern California makes it an internationally recognized center for biological diversity and contains a wide variety of significant natural habitats, from marine communities, coastal wetlands and beaches to trout streams, oak woodlands, chaparral, sage scrub, desert and mountain-top pine forests."

Regions and Themes Chapter 1

Los Angeles has a lot more to offer than just the city life. It is pretty amazing what Los Angeles has to offer you can find a copious amount of tall building but also you can find nice hiking trails, parks, river, community colleges/universities, museums, and even family oriented neighborhoods. Many residents that live in Los Angeles like to mainly get out of the city and take a break from LA city life for a while. A lot of the residents like to go go up to the Mountains (Big Bear) or to the beach (Santa Monica) both are really close to Los Angeles and are drivable which is pretty amazing one can go to the beach during the day and drive up to the Mountains in just one day. There is also the hiking trails that can be found in Los Angeles that people like to visit. A lot of the hiking trails can be found in Griffith Park where they also have the Los Angeles Zoo, Observatory, Travel Town, and much more (http://www.laparks.org/dos/parks/griffithpk/attractions.htm).  There is a little of everything in Los Angeles its just needs to be found if you do not really know the area.
